About the Artist

 

Welcome to my virtual gallery! Some know me as "The Eye", but you can call me "EB". I am a Canadian mixed-media artist who creates two-dimensional works featuring organic themes. My works tend to be rooted in realism as I delight in experimenting with my observations and perceptions of the world.

My previous life was spent immersed in science and biology, which informs my way of seeing and creating. My eyes have been trained to observe fine details and nuance while my mind has been shaped by a strong spirit of curiosity and a love of learning. I enjoy manually applying these qualities to creative experimentation. Since retiring, I have been avidly developing my artistic skills and exploring the realms of philosophy and spirituality as they pertain to the fundamental questions around meaning and worldly existence. I am intrigued by the surrealist art movement of the interwar period for its celebration of the imagination, self-discovery, and probings of the unconscious mind.

Through my work I hope to inspire a sense of joy and curiosity for the viewer. I am keen to allow my creative daimon to wander in whatever direction it may take me. I enjoy creating works in series as a way to study a theme or subject of interest. Flora, fauna, portraiture, and collage frequently figure into my work. I aspire to bring awareness to, and an appreciation of, the beauty and mystery of the world all around us.
